UN Chief’s explanation morally wrong – Muhammad Farooq Rehmani

Islamabad, 05 Aug, 2010: Muhammad Farooq Rehmani chairman Jammu and Kashmir People’s Freedom League has said that the revised statement issued in the name of UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon by UN spokesman Martin Nesirky on the use of excessive force against the protesters in Kashmir by Indian armed forces is backtracking and morally wrong. Commenting upon the explanation given by the UN spokesman, he said that type of repudiating or disowning would not help UN build its image in South Asia. He said that UN Chief’s earlier stand was right to have advised India to show restraint in Jammu and Kashmir, but now it was India’s undue pressure to damage face of the Secretary General’s office.

Muhammad Farooq Rehmani cautioned UN spokesman of its bad consequences and said that the revised, backtracked statement would only encourage India to continue its bloody policies in the disputed region. Therefore, UN Chief should rethink his statement and ask India to comply with the International Humanitarian Law in Kashmir and punish those guilty of murder and molestation in the occupied state.
