Don’t ignore Kashmir in new rules of engagement─ Farooq Rehmani

Islamabad(PR) May 21, 2012: Chairman Jammu and Kashmir People’s Freedom League Muhammad Farooq Rehmani has urged on the Policy planners of Pakistan to underscore Kashmir in the new rules of business and engagement with America and the Nato, meant for resuming supplies to Afghanistan. He said that under the new policy of engagement a just and honourable solution of Kashmir should also be recognized as important as the Nato supply from Pakistan to Afghanistan. The US ambitions in war-torn/tormented Hindu-Kush region must be equally matched by Pakistan’s long standing just demand for the solution of Kashmir. id, “Kashmir can’t regain its role and Pakistan can’t seize this golden opportunity, unless Kashmir and the Kashmiris are placed on the top priority of well-founded negotiations with the United States. If Kashmir is allowed to sink today, it will not be rescued from political oblivion. Nature does not alter or modify its laws for those who fall into long slumber,” he said. Muhammad Farooq Rehmani said, “ Pakistan has been taking care of the West’s interests since 1950s,but its genuine concerns vis-a-vis India have always been ignored by America and the West. Now it is the turn of America and Nato to pay heed to Pakistan’s concerns about both Eastern and Western borders; and India’s concentration of heavily armed troops in Kashmir and her military activities under the cover of building economic and industrial infrastructure in Afghanistan.”
Muhammad Farooq Rehmani recalled, “the Kashmiris have been suffering generation after generation in the clash of interests between big powers, India and Pakistan; and wars and cold wars between the two nuke states resulting in loss of their younger population, destruction of the social order and honour of womenfolk in the last 21 years of military operations under the pretext of eliminating insurgency from the State. But has the suffering Kashmiri been recognized as the sole aggrieved party any time in the Pakistan-India negotiations? This is the question which seeks answer.”
Muhammad Farooq Rehmani said, “The present scenario is ripe for emphasizing upon a just and a durable solution of Kashmir between the concerned parties, because of America’s interests in the region. Pakistan should articulate before America not only its concerns about Indian and Afghan maneuverings in the region, but also the significance of Kashmir’s just solution in line with the wishes of the people and the high stakes of the suffering people in this multi-party game of interests is of paramount importance.” He said, “The past generations of the Kashmiris kept quiet on many omissions and commissions of the other two parties, but obviously today, the same is beyond the expectations of the present younger generation. The kashmiris rightly deserve their fundamental role in Pak/India talks on Kashmir or Kashmir-related issues. Kashmiris should not be taken for granted, nor treated as pawns on the chess-board of diplomacy. It must be realized that by subjecting the people to torment and ordeal India has wiped the smile off their faces. So India is no solution to them. They waited long for a dose of sun-shine, for a light breeze, but in vain. Therefore, if again all the appeals to help the Kashmiris fell on deaf ears, the waves of gloom and doom will sweep across the troubled region, and India/Pakistan would not be able to sort out offshoots of Kashmir only through high-profile business and travel activities.”
Muhammad Farooq Rehmani said, “Although the present callousness towards Kashmir is a demoralizing experience for the people of Kashmir, but they are firm and determined to achieve their cherished goal of freedom without any compromise on the basic principle of the right of self-determination. The occupation is not acceptable in any other form, like old wine in a new bottle”
